 Five thousand devotees visited ISKCON Moscow from June 28th to 30th to celebrate 25 years since the Moscow Society for Krishna Consciousness—and with it, other ISKCON communities all over Russia—was officially registered in 1988. The Moscow temple is one of the most resilient and fast-growing communities in ISKCON.  Devotees at the New Vrajamandala farm in Brihuega, central Spain will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the installation of their gorgeous presiding Deities, Sri Sri Radha Govinda Chandra from August 23rd to 29th this summer. Around 200 devotees from Spain and other European countries are expected to gather for the event.  The Sri Harinam Traveling Temple program started in 2011, when during the summer months devotees in two rented minivans traveled to many European countries and performed harinam on the streets. Now in the year 2013, they have their own big bus, and the raveling harinam sankirtan program is growing even more. They have already been chanting every day on the streets of Europe since the month of May.  Bhaktivedanta Academy in Alachua, Florida, USA, is launching its new International Baccalaureate accredited Middle Years Program for students in 7th through 10th grade.  Nearly one-quarter of a million men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, accounting for 30,000 deaths from this largely preventable disease.  Scientists had struggled to find the trigger for so-called Colony Collapse Disorder that has wiped out an estimated 10 million beehives, over the past six years.  Gambling addictions are much more common than most people think. With gambling legal and easy to find, every day more and more people fall prey to its devastation, their lives becoming ruined.  On July 17th in the Northeastern Indian state of Bihar 27 school children died of food poisoning. Some of the groups are well-equipped NGOs such as ISKCON Food Relief Foundation (IFRF)—was not involved in the tragic incident. So why did this negligence occur, and what can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future? Radha Krishna Das, the managing director of IFRF explains.  Sometimes we want to chase the storm. The first phase of the Villa Vrindavana museum which just opened, fills five large rooms with twenty grand sized paintings of India’s classic literature, the Mahabharata. The paintings reveal in vibrant colors the drama, emotion, intrigue, and divine purposes of the Mahabharata and its epic battle between the forces of good and evil.  Two brand new ISKCON temples are set to open in Delhi soon. The first will open in the Dwarka Suburb of Delhi on August 21st this year. In addition, another major temple is under construction in the Noida area, and is scheduled to open on February 12th 2014. The most surprising and wonderful thing about these new developments are that they will be no less than the eight and ninth ISKCON temples in Delhi!  Krishna is present in our my heart, thus he has the perfect vantage point to see all our mistakes. However, Krishna's purpose residing there is not to catch us when we do wrong, but to coach us for doing right.  With his new book Gadadhara Pandit Das—who currently resides in New York City—is helping the average people realize that spirituality can be for them too. In telling the story of his life, his book Urban Monk: Exploring Karma, Consciousness and the Divine demystifies a “Hollywood” idea of what a monk is and emphasizes that any “normal” person can follow the spiritual path. |
